Kenwood TS 480SAT - TCXO

Post by WA5TT » Sun Jun 28, 2015 4:50 pm

I had the opportunity to use the 480 in Goliath assisting with the Digital (PSK31) station for field day. Had a great time. Does this radio have the TCXO option added in? Was wondering because I want to use this same mode on my TS 480 once I get a HF antenna going.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

We did not purchase the TCXO option when the unit was purchased. It was a base model TS-480SAT. The option if I remember correctly was not available at the time. It is worth purchasing though in my opinion as it makes the transmitter stay on frequency far more effectively when the temperatures are in extremes. Especially when in a vehicle.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

Appreciate the response. I plan to keep the rig in the house in the short term. The TCXO has a steep markup and I've heard it may be possible to find a alternative for much less. Will explore the options if I need it.

Thanks,
Chris
