Affordable and Easy Part 15 Access Point for Your Mesh Node

Post by K5ICR » Fri Feb 20, 2015 10:34 pm

Gerald recently found an access point that piggybacks onto your existing POE injector for Ubiquiti equipment. It's a very affordable way to add Part 15 WiFi access so that you can connect to the mesh network with your laptops/cell phones/etc.

There are a couple of options. The one without an external antenna is here: http://smile.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Networ ... B00HXT84DG

Don't forget to use Amazon Smile and set DCARA as your charity of choice ;)

Once you've setup the login password, wireless SSID and WPA2 (WPA2-AES is the best security option, WPA is ok, never ever use WEP) settings, put it into "Bridge" mode instead of "Access Point" or "Station" modes. The bridge setting is key to making it function so that connected devices pull IPs from the mesh node and use its DNS functions.
