UBIQUITI EQUIPMENT ISSUE

There is currently an issue with the newer versions of Ubiquiti equipment when trying to load firmware for BBHN. Trying to use the firmware not authorized by Ubiquiti will cause your hardware to become bricked. More information may be found here: http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/index.php 9/21/2015 N...

Re: 2M, 1.25M, 70CM Dual/Tri Band Portables (POLL ATTACHED)

So I discovered on Amazon and through a few different vendors the UV-82X make sure you use the X on the end or it comes up with the VHF/UHF version. So, that explains a lot. Here is the link for it on their website: https://baofengtech.com/uv-82x

That is what I thought but two different vendors and Baofengs own website says that radio is only 2M/70CM.

Re: Thanx!

Cheryl,

I would like to say thank you. Your club works hard to make it's members feel welcome and invited. It is often times a thankless task and having members such as yourself really makes us feel better about what we are doing.

APRS Best Practices

Since it is highly recommended we all have APRS capability for Skywarn use I thought it would be useful to post some information on the "Best Practices for APRS." First, APRS is Automated Packet Reporting System there is some literature out there including an ARRL and W5YI license manual that both t...

Re: 2M, 1.25M, 70CM Dual/Tri Band Portables

A Kick Starter was just discovered that is quite interesting. 2M/1.25M/70CM that works on an Arduino. It is called HamShield and can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/749835103/hamshield-for-arduino-vhf-uhf-transceiver of course this is still concept and no guarantee it will become...

Re: Grounding System tips

Excellent write up. I too have been contemplating how I will be installing my ground system. There is an interesting article that was put out by the Post Naval Graduate School on grounding titled: "THE MITIGATION OF RADIO NOISE AND INTERFERENCE FROM ON-SITE SOURCES at RADIO RECEIVING SITES" Dated: N...

Re: Fusion vs DStar

Cheryl, The D*STAR project was our first true all-digital voice and data communication system that the DCARA supported. It was made possible thanks to two donations from a member that wished to remain anonymous. We don't see him often anymore as he is busy with his business but he purchased both the...

Re: Kenwood TS 480SAT - TCXO

Chris, We did not purchase the TCXO option when the unit was purchased. It was a base model TS-480SAT. The option if I remember correctly was not available at the time. It is worth purchasing though in my opinion as it makes the transmitter stay on frequency far more effectively when the temperature...

Re: IRC Server Now Running

I am unable to login with any other utility. Since this is a work computer I need to find an open source or freeware client that is compatible. The only time clicking on the link has worked is with mIRC. I've tried Pidgin, several chrome plugins, and now HEXChat with no luck. Could you provide compl...
