Re: Wires X node.

Awesome! If you want to experiment with it on the 525 repeater, shoot me an email.

Generally speaking, we just need a way to knock it down if something goes awry.

Re: DMR

I'm not sure how many club members have DMR radios, but for the ones I am aware of, we are mostly using Motorola XPR radios. That being said, I own a few Motorola XPR 6550 and have used those as my primary DMR radios. TYT recently released a MD-380 DMR portable which is very affordable (~$160 on Ama...

Re: Fusion vs DStar

HamRadioNow did a show on DV modes not all that long ago. The guys he recorded in North Carolina do a pretty nice job of explaining things without too much opinion, rumor, or other noise.

Re: Curious about the Rosston setup

Rosston (KE5YAP) is an interesting setup. The gateway controller, computer, and RF modules are in a climate controlled enclosure on a platform at 1500 ft. This poses unique challenges to the club with respect to access, finding work crews, and hardening the equipment from the harsh environment (cons...

Re: 2M, 1.25M, 70CM Dual/Tri Band Portables (POLL ATTACHED)

Don't forget about the Baofeng UV-82X, which covers 136-174 and 220-260 and costs around $50. Several of us are using those radios as our primary 220 portables.

I would definitely recommend getting a better antenna than the one that comes stock on the radio.

Re: IP Camera Recommendations

We are still working on figuring out which ones to get. The latest generation of the Ubiquiti cameras does not support RTSP. There is also not a good web interface for those cameras either. The small viewing window within the administrative control panel is intended to help with aiming, not routine ...

New Users and Anti-Spam Settings

First, let me say welcome to the DCARA Forums! Within a week of Mike Carline installing the PHPbb software, spam bots had already found and gotten to work on the forums, so I had to implement several anti-spam settings, as follows: When you register, you will need to provide a valid email address so...

Re: IRC Server Now Running

Eric, The way usernames are handled on IRC servers is a bit different from what you're likely used to. If you delve into the documentation for various IRC daemons, you'll likely see reference to something like nick!user@host. The username field was historically set by the user or grabbed automatical...

Re: IRC Server Now Running

As an update, we now have the ability to access the IRC server from the general Internet. Gerald (WB5NZV) has graciously agreed to host the IRC server and allow us to access it from outside the mesh network. The public address for the IRC server is: irc.dentonbbhn.net:6667 There is a password requir...

Re: Configuration Naming Conventions

Jack, For SSID, channel, bandwidth, etc., we've been using the default values. Changing the values in the "WiFi" box will prohibit you from linking with the already deployed equipment. However, it may be useful to use an alternate SSID or channel if you ever wanted to create a separate mesh network....
